Welcome to the Apostolic Church of Queensland Southern District

This website provides basic information about the origin of the church in Australia and our fundamental values and principles.

We are recognised by the Australian government as a Church and registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for profits Commission.

Origin

In modern times, the Church traces its origin to England when the Catholic Apostolic Church (no link to the Roman Catholic Church) was established in the 1830’s. This church then expanded into Europe and the pioneers of the Australian church migrated from Germany. The Church was established in Australia in 1883 by HF Niemeyer. The title of the leader of the Church is Apostle. HF Niemeyer was the first Apostle for Australia.

Beliefs

The core beliefs of the church are based on the teachings in the King James Bible. In addition to upholding a doctrine based on this bible, the church upholds traditional values including the importance of marriage, family and community life, worship every Sunday and pastoral care for its membership.

Membership

The Church has an active membership of approximately 2,000 members, spread throughout 11 communities in South-East Queensland. The cathedral at Hatton Vale is the headquarters, where major events are celebrated, including traditional Christian festivals.
